1.2 Acceptable Practices

Employees are responsible for complying with their organization’s Information Technology Policies and Procedures. The term information technology refers to hardware (computers, printers, keyboards, etc.), software (MS Word, Adobe Acrobat, Google Chrome, etc.), an organization’s network, and the Internet. The exact name of your organization’s policies may vary.

When hired, employees usually receive access to their organization’s Information Technology (IT) Policies that define acceptable practices regarding the use of an organization’s information resources. The requirements are in place to protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of the organization’s information.

This course offers general guidelines regarding access and technology. For specific instructions on how to comply with your organization’s requirements, consult your organization’s Information Technology Policies and Procedures. If you don’t know where the policies are, ask your supervisor
