4.5 My Team Map

Step 1: Draw Your Team

Download the provided Handout: My Team Map (PDF)

Part I. Create a snapshot of how you view the team at this moment in time.

  • The circle on the page represents your team. The middle of that circle is the heart of the team.
  • Draw a triangle where you see yourself in relation to the heart of the team.
  • Draw a triangle for each person on your team where you see them in relation to the heart of the team and to you. You can include names or initials in the triangles to help you differentiate people.
  • Draw squares to represent significant factors or events impacting the team. You can identify those factors or events as well.
  • Draw bonds between yourself and each person or event. Use the provided key to draw the correct type of line that represents a weak, average, strong, or conflict relationship.
  • Review your drawing.
    • What do you notice?
    • What would you like to see change?

Part II.Create a snapshot of how you would like your team to be.

  • Once you have reflected, use another blank handout to re-draw your team the way you would like it to be.
  • Review that second drawing and reflect on what is different about it.

The example below is just that, one person’s way of viewing their team how it is and how they want it to be. You should draw your own view of your team.

Step 2: Create & Share Your Drawings

Upload your drawings to the discussion forum to create a team map gallery.

You can include a brief description of your observations and reflection on your own drawings if you wish, but it is not required.

Share Your Recording

Upload your drawings as one file by [Day, Time] this  week to have your work featured in the Shared Drawings Gallery. You will have an opportunity to view the shared drawings before our next Team Work Session.

In the box below, upload your drawings as one file.

Step 3: Listen & Acknowledge Gallery

Your instructor will review your submission. Your drawings will be added to the gallery section below for your team to view and comment the next day.

Return to this lesson, explore the Shared Drawings Gallery. Review other team members’ maps and respond with:

    • Clarification questions
    • What you observe in each drawing and how they may differ
    • Where there are similarities or differences between their drawings and yours
    • What these drawings collectively mean for the team
    • How you would define the problem based on what you see from the group of drawings
    • One idea for a possible action step that could help move the team from its current state to a future state envisioned by the team
